The Simplicity Of The Bistro Style

The Simplicity Of The Bistro Style

The French Bistro table and its iconic look that reminds us of simple culinary pleasures on the sidewalks of French villages has popped up on our Santa Fe shop patio here in the Railyard near the Plaza. The idea of the folding bistro table and chairs came from the need to maximize the seating on the sidewalks and patios of small bistros in Paris. Folded flat and stacked at night in the corridors of the restaurant and then re-opened each morning on the sidewalks, this easy to carry but sturdy patio furniture was labeled “bistro” after its functional use. The original designer of this iconic, folding dining sets is a French company called Fermob. They created this simple, charming furniture in 1889 and are still finding ways to modernize the look through material and bold color.

At Bon Marché we love the French tradition of bringing the dining experience outdoors in an effortless way and wanted to experiment with this simple concept on our own patio. Lined with eye-popping colors like yellow, pink, verbena green, poppy red, purple, carrot and turquoise you will see the creation of the bistro patio tradition outside our front steps. From square to round table tops and folding chairs our Fermob patio furniture is set up daily to bring the scenes of the Paris sidewalks to our customers. Easy to move around, tough and sturdy – with UV resistance and a powder coated finish these bright and happy patio sets dress up any space. Need extra seating? These are perfect small additions that can be easily stored when not in use. Perfect for balcony décor or a garden party addition, mix yellow chairs with a turquoise table or try an aubergine table and bright red chairs. Throw one of our cotton canvas stripped table runners on top and your guest will feel she is having dessert in a Parisian bistro instead of your own back yard.
